Melodic Embrace is an interactive sound sculpture made from steel pipes and wood. The sculpture invites visitors to nestle in its sonic embrace, play, find tranquility, and create tones that form a kind of sound vault. The soothing harmonies of the pipes engage in an intense dialogue with the ambient sounds of the environment, such as birdsong and children’s laughter, and stimulate reflections on an auditory sanctuary. Melodic Embrace echoes Emil’s musical upbringing but diverges from his traditional classical training through the use of a pentatonic scale. Multiple people can play the sculpture simultaneously and from all sides, allowing for spontaneous compositions and auditory conversations.
Emil began his art studies at MICA in Baltimore, USA, and completed a BA in Fine Arts from the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland in 2023. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Iceland University of the Arts. He is an interdisciplinary artist who explores and addresses subjects such as self-reflection, physicality, and the interplay between natural and social environments through interactive three-dimensional installations and performances.
