You are warmly welcome to an artist talk with Gunnar Jónsson and sound performance with Gunnar Gunnsteinsson in connection to Loop, on the 19th of May at 18:00.
Gunnar Jónsson (b. 1988) is an artist working primarily with video and installation. His work often revolves around place and proximity to the sea, in ways that are both melancholic and poetic. His work Sorgarhyrna (2025) is one of the two works now playing in Loop. The Video is a dialogue between mood and landscape in which furrowed brows merge with mountain ridges. That simple image reflects how the solar cycle influences the residents of Ísafjörður, emotionally and physically, during the winter time when the light is limited for a long period of time by high mountain tops.
Gunnar Gunnsteinsson is a musician based in Reykjavík. He studied composition in Amsterdam, where he became acquainted with Kleoniki Stanich and her work. However, he had already moved back to Reykjavík when they collaborated on her piece Arrival (2023), which is currently being shown in Loop. Gunnar designed the sound and composed the music. When he received audio recordings from the filming location—an island in the Mediterranean—he immediately noticed the strong gusts of wind. These quickly became his point of connection to the work, as he himself was experiencing the windswept conditions of Iceland.
Loop is a screening series where two video works are shown together and played in a continuous loop. Every six weeks, the rhythm shifts and new works take over. This iteration of Loop will run from 29.04–14.06.2026.
