You are warmly welcome to a lecture by Guja Dögg Hauksdóttir on the architecture of Högna Sigurðardóttir.
The lecture focuses on selected works by Högna Sigurðardóttir, an architect renowned for her highly original architecture and distinctively personal approach. Her work uniquely combines inspiration drawn from Icelandic architectural heritage with international currents of the mid‑20th century. Högna studied architecture in Paris and spent most of her professional career working in France, where she designed the majority of her buildings.
Of the small number of building Högna designed in Iceland, four are located in Kópavogur, built between 1961 and 1991. These buildings will be examined in detail in the lecture, with particular emphasis on the architect’s conceptual framework, form, materiality, and the relationship of the works to their site and historical context.
Guja Dögg Hauksdóttir studied architecture (cand.arch.) at the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark. After completing her studies, she worked in Aarhus, and since returning to Iceland has primarily engaged with architecture through interdisciplinary research and mediation in various forms ranging from media production and lectures to writing and teaching. Guja Dögg is an Assistant Professor and Academic Director at the Department of Architecture at the Iceland University of the Arts. She is currently working on a book about the life’s work of Högna Sigurðardóttir, entitled Skáldað í steypu.
The event is a part of Design March.
