In pairs / W parach: Cooking workshop with Pola Sutryk and Maja Demska
Pola Sutryk is an artist, chef and designer of edible installations and events. She translates the aesthetic sensitivity and fascination with nature she acquired during her childhood in the forests of eastern Poland into visual and culinary art. Currently based in Reykjavik, she organises events, workshops and artistic activities, treating food as a subject, medium and pretext for gatherings. In her works, she employs fermentation, traditional culinary techniques from around the world, and wild edible plants.
Maja Demska is an artist, curator and writer, with a background in graphic design. She explores the themes of data, information, communication and alternative economies – with emphasis on our emotional and corporeal relationship with these notions. Founder of Groszowe sprawy (2018-2021) – nonprofit art space operating from a stall at the open-air food market in Warsaw.
Pola and Maja propose a participatory workshop, centred around themes of collectivity, togetherness and sharing efforts for the common good – hoping to create meaningful connections through the act of preparing food together. We’ll work exclusively with resources found in the immediate area of Catalina bar, using wild plants growing in Hamraborg, ingredients from Krónan, Polish store Euro market, Videomarkaðurinn, Cibo Amore and so on. Through the collaborative process of cooking and preparing for the Hamraborg Festival party we’ll cultivate a sense of neighbourliness as we work towards a shared goal.
We’d like to explore the notion of collaboration by working with the idea of pairs: thinking of our favourite food pairings, engaging in exercises done in pairs (connected eating utensils, food designed for sharing) etc.
