Entering R\u00f3sa G\u00edslad\u00f3ttir’s exhibition, we seem to be experiencing an ancient meeting place and in the ruins of the future at the same time. The galleries are calm. The weight of the works gives us grounding. Or is the weight threatening? Pillars like these stand for thousands of years, until they suddenly no longer do. R\u00f3sa G\u00edslad\u00f3ttir\u2019s three-dimensional works explore the derivation of forms and their transcendence of meaning throughout history, modern-day materials and the struggles of consumerism. Often site-specific, her work emphasizes the independent value of still life as an art form and continually delves into subjects such as sustainable development, classicism, and spirituality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
R\u00f3sa G\u00edslad\u00f3ttir (b. 1957) studied in Germany, United Kingdom and Iceland. Her works have been exhibited far and wide, including Scandinavia House in New York, Saatchi Gallery in London, Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum, Hafnarborg and Berg Contemporary.
