Artists \u00c1slaug \u00cdris Katr\u00edn Fri\u00f0j\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir, J\u00f3hanna Kristbj\u00f6rg Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, Steinunn \u00d6nnud\u00f3ttir and Styrmir \u00d6rn Gu\u00f0mundsson participate in this year\u2019s edition of SCULPTURE \/ SCULPTURE.<\/p>\n
SCULPTURE \/ SCULPTURE is an exhibition series seeks to honor sculptor Ger\u00f0ur Helgad\u00f3ttir (1928-1975), who the museum is named by, and her contribution to Icelandic art as well as to give insight into the medium in contemporary times. This year\u00b4s exhibition, held for the third time in August showcases works by contemporary artists alongside the works of Ger\u00f0ur Helgad\u00f3ttir.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year Ger\u00f0arsafn sent out an open call to artist. Participants for the series this year have been selected out of over 100 artists that replied to the call. They are \u00c1slaug \u00cdris Katr\u00edn Fri\u00f0j\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir, J\u00f3hanna Kristbj\u00f6rg Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, Steinunn \u00d6nnud\u00f3ttir and Styrmir \u00d6rn Gu\u00f0mundsson.<\/p>\n
The title SCULPTURE \/ SCULPTURE refers to the exhibition Sculpture\/sculpture\/sculpture, held in 1994 at Kjarvalssta\u00f0ir (now Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum) with works by 27 Icelandic sculptors. The exhibition opened the same year as Ger\u00f0arsafn opened its doors to visitors.<\/p>\n
