BIRDS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birds feature prominently in the museum’s collection and over 60 species of birds are on display, including 11 species of ducks of both sexes, along with basic information about the birds, e.g. population sizes and migration routes. Below is a list of the main groups of birds that can be seen in our gallery. Under each group you can find information about the main types.

MAMMALS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum has representatives of three Icelandic land mammal species on display, i.e. fox mink and vole.

FISH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

K\u00f3pavogur’s Natural History Center has a small collection of stuffed fish, as well as live fish in marine and freshwater cages.

MOLLUSCS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A diverse collection of molluscs is on display at K\u00f3pavogur’s Natural History Laboratory. The centerpiece of the museum is J\u00f3n Bogason’s mollusc museum, which is one of the most complete collections of shells and molluscs in the country.

Arthropods are animals that have an articulated body and an external skeleton made of chitin.

GEOLOGY<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the geology section of the museum, Iceland’s geology is presented in words and pictures. There is also a varied rock museum, where you can see samples of the country’s most common rock types, along with a variety of hole fillings, deposits and fossils. Below, we discuss certain issues and phenomena in Iceland’s geology, with an emphasis on what can be found here in the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
