She completed her BA in art and design at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam in 2018. Dýrfinna has been working independently in the field of visual arts since then, in addition to collaborating with the art collective Lucky 3, which she founded in 2019 along with Melanie Ubaldo and Darren Mark. In 2022, the group received The Icelandic Art
Motivational Award for the performance PUTI, which was originally presented at Sequences 2021 in OPEN gallery. Dýrfinna works in various media, including drawing, installations, and steel sculptures. Her themes explore absurdity in society in the times of post-capitalism, where true values are often at risk of being lost, such as wisdom, health, and resources. She draws inspiration from her personal experiences and her interactions with the world, which tend to evoke mixed emotions.

Sadie Cook (b.1997) is an artist from the USA living and working in Iceland. They make work that sits between photography and installation, and revolves around touch, desire, trauma, and traces. They have been published and shown nationally and internationally, including an upcoming solo exhibition at Reykjavik Art Museum as part of an artist duo with Jo Pawlowska. Sadie has photographs in books held by MOMA, the Tate, and the Met. Sadie graduated Yale, won a Fulbright, and has been a guest critic at Yale, Harvard, and NYU. Sadie lives in Reykjavik with their partner Diljá Thorvaldsdottir. Sadie runs Gallery Kannski and is a board member at the Living Art Museum.

More information about the exhibition:
https://gerdarsafn.kopavogur.is/en/event/stare/

Sigríður Marrow.

All are welcome to attend an artist talk with Dýrfinna Benita Basalan and Sadie Cook on Museum night Friday 7th February at 7 p.m. in Gerðarsafn.
