Strawberry secrets

Mekó

Hamraborg 14

Strawberry Secrets is an installation of ceramic sculptures, whose creation was summoned by strawberry spirits. They have surfaced in these works to whisper together a secret. Upon close careful observation the viewer may begin to hear inaudible whispers from the many faces, a song from the essence of late summer sweetness.

Jasa Baka creates Eventful Vessels. For her these objects are an ongoing animistic collaboration where she has been developing a dialogue between the subconscious nature of the materials (clay, metal, wood, fabric), intermediary beings from a subconscious realm and my own oneiric subconscious nature. These beings, Ambassadors, or hybrid creatures, surface to collaborate through my automatic intuitive art practices. Some call them cats, perhaps because these creatures have a cuteness to them. This cuteness is important to help carry the parallel intensity held in the work. These vessels of energy instigate change and are tools of transformation, rebirth, healing, body positivity, self love and of the interconnectedness found in the love of nature in all things..

Jasa Baka is a multidisciplinary artist from Montréal, Canada based in Reykjavík.
She holds a BFA specializing in Design for Theatre from Concordia University in Montréal, Canada (2008) and an MA in fine art from LHÍ (2022).
