ANDSKOTANS HÁVAÐI (riffasúpa ræflarokkarans)

Mekó

Carpark – Hamraborg

This year’s Hamraborg Festival will feature Curver Thoroddsen’s sound installation Bloody Racket (a punk rock cacophony) in Hamraborg’s garage.
The installation consists of 10 loudspeakers spread around the space, each repeating a prominent riff from Icelandic punk songs in a loop over and over again. Combined, loops from the speakers generate “a bloody racket”, which is of course a phrase that has often been used by people to describe punk music in a negative way.
This commissioned piece is an independent continuation of a similar sound installation by Curver at the heavy metal festival Eistnaflug last summer, where he explored metal riffs.
Due to the connection of Kópavogur and Hamraborg Festival with punk this year, it seemed ideal to explore the cacophony of Icelandic punk rock in its own birthplace.
